2026 TCM Wellness Study & Explore Tour to China

Restore Your Energy, Awaken Self-Healing, and Cultivate Body-Mind-Spirit in China

October 11–25, 2026 | 15 Days | 5 Distinctive Wellness Bases | Led by Dr. Kevin Chen

Are you tired of rushed sightseeing tours that barely touch the surface of China’s culture—and leave you more exhausted than renewed? Are you looking for an authentic, immersive experience that helps you restore energy, calm the mind, care for the body, and reconnect with a deeper sense of well-being?

This autumn, from October 11 to 25, 2026, I invite you to join our exclusive Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Yang-Sheng Study & Explore Tour. Designed for Qigong practitioners, holistic-health professionals, TCM enthusiasts, and thoughtful self-care seekers, this is far more than a vacation. It is a 15-day learning and wellness journey into the living traditions of TCM, Daoist cultivation, Qigong, food therapy, and mind–body–spirit practice.

Our group will travel through Shanghai, Mount Jinhua and nearby Yiwu, Beijing, and Langfang, with five distinctive wellness bases along the way. Rather than centering the trip on crowded landmarks and quick photographs, the program emphasizes hands-on learning, daily practice, quiet reflection, cultural immersion, and practical methods of Yang-Sheng—“nurturing life.” The underlying TCM principle is simple: cultivate harmony between human beings and nature, support the body’s inherent capacity for balance, and make self-care a daily practice.

Why This Journey Is Different

Many of the experiences on this itinerary are difficult for independent international visitors to arrange: a multi-day stay at a Daoist academy, small-group Qigong instruction at a leading research institute, in-depth wellness programs at TCM centers, and private cultural and practice sessions with experienced teachers. Our small group brings these elements together in one carefully coordinated program.

You will move between modern TCM education and clinical observation, mountain-based Daoist life, Qigong and Daoyin practice, thermal relaxation, food therapy, cultural arts, and personalized wellness consultation. Each experience is selected to deepen—not merely describe—the principles of Yang-Sheng.

Every class, lecture, meal, and practice supports one central idea: health and vitality are the foundation for everything else in life.

The Legacy of This Tour—and Your Guide

We successfully led three immersive TCM wellness study tours in 2017 and 2018, with participants describing the experience as deeply educational, restorative, and personally meaningful. After a pause caused by professional commitments and the pandemic, we are delighted to reopen the tour in 2026 with a refined itinerary and renewed partnerships.

Your host and full-time tour director, Dr. Kevin Chen, has decades of experience in Chinese wellness research, Qigong, cross-cultural health education, and medical-wellness travel. He will personally guide the program, provide live bilingual interpretation during classes and cultural visits, and help participants understand how the practices encountered in China may be adapted thoughtfully to daily life in North America.

This journey is for people who want to move beyond surface-level sightseeing: those who wish to learn directly from TCM professionals and Daoist teachers, experience Chinese wellness culture in context, practice what they learn, and return home with useful habits for energy, resilience, and well-being.

Following is our full tentative daily itinerary detailing all core training, exclusive healing experiences and cultural activities at every destination, to help you visualize this transformative journey and decide if this once-in-a-lifetime retreat aligns with your personal wellness goals.

Shanghai: Modern China, TCM Education, and the Roots of Qigong

Shanghai is China’s largest metropolis, often called “the New York of the East.” Its dramatic skyline, efficient transit system, and vibrant urban culture offer a striking introduction to contemporary China. At the same time, Shanghai is an important center for TCM education, research, and public-health practice—making it an ideal starting point for our wellness journey.

Day 1: Arrival and Welcome — International participants arrive at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, where our team will provide scheduled group pickup and transfer to a comfortable four-star hotel. That evening, we gather for a welcoming dinner and orientation with Dr. Chen, setting the tone for the days ahead.

Day 2: Shanghai Qigong Research Institute and City Perspective — our program begins with an immersive visit to the Shanghai Qigong Research Institute, a leading government-supported Qigong research institution with more than four decades of history. Our group will receive a guided introduction to the Qigong History Exhibition Hall, where historical artifacts, murals, manuscripts, and calligraphy illustrate the development of Qigong through Daoism, Confucianism, Chinese medicine, and martial arts traditions.

In the afternoon, we will enjoy a concise Shanghai sightseeing program, including panoramic views from the Oriental Pearl Tower observation deck. A Huangpu River cruise may be added if the schedule permits.

Day 3: Qigong and Meridian Daoyin Training — Senior Qigong instructors will lead our group in two practical energy-cultivation forms:

  • Huashan Rejuvenation Gong, a classical Daoist standing practice appropriate for a range of ages and physical abilities; and
  • The 12 Primary Meridian Daoyin Method, a gentle movement system informed by traditional concepts of qi, blood circulation, and the meridians.

The emphasis is not on performance, but on learning accessible practices for posture, breath, mindful movement, and daily energy cultivation. Later, we visit a major municipal hospital to observe China’s integrated approach to traditional and modern medical care.

Day 4: Shanghai University of TCM and the TCM Museum —Day 4 offers a deeper introduction to formal TCM education. At the Shanghai University of Chinese Medicine and the Shanghai Museum of TCM, you will see how Chinese medical history, classical knowledge, and contemporary professional training connect. After a nourishing lunch, we travel by private charter bus to Mount Jinhua for the next chapter of our journey: a secluded Daoist retreat.

Mount Jinhua: A Private Daoist Temple Retreat

Have you ever imagined living, studying, and practicing in a sacred mountain setting alongside Daoist priests? At Mount Jinhua, that possibility becomes real.

Revered in Daoist tradition as the 36th Cave-Heaven of Daoism, Mount Jinhua has a long association with inner cultivation, meditation, and spiritual practice. Daoist legends connect the region with the Yellow Emperor and the Nine-Heaven Xuan Lady. We will visit the mountain’s temples and reside for three days at the Academy of Laozi, located within the Huang-Daxian Ancestor Temple complex.

The Academy was established to preserve and share Daoist culture and wellness practice. Our group will live and dine within this peaceful setting, receiving direct instruction from resident Daoist priests. For many participants, this is one of the most memorable and inwardly quiet parts of the entire journey.

Days 5–7: Daily Daoist Cultivation

Our three-day retreat is designed for beginners as well as experienced practitioners. Each morning begins early with Daoist chanting, gentle mind–body cultivation exercises, and Chisongzi Daoyin, a traditional Qigong practice native to the Mount Jinhua region. Afternoons include study of Daoist classics, everyday wellness principles, and practical applications of Daoist thinking for personal balance and environmental harmony.

The program also includes an authentic Daoist tea ceremony, guided tea tasting, visits to the priests’ living quarters, and a private visit to the mountain’s meditation caves. Nutritious vegetarian temple meals are served three times daily.

The guest rooms are comfortable and peaceful, with traditional solid wooden beds rather than modern soft mattresses. This simple setting is part of the retreat experience: a chance to reduce external stimulation, sleep more simply, and focus on practice.

Day 6: Yiwu International Trade City and TCM Foot Massage — Following morning Qigong, we travel by private charter bus to the Yiwu International Trade City—the world’s largest small-commodities market. Here you may explore massage tools, herbal aromatics, meridian-practice devices, and natural self-care accessories at wholesale prices. It is an enjoyable opportunity to select useful items and gifts that can support your wellness routine after the trip.

We close the day with a nourishing local dinner and a professional TCM foot massage.

Day 8: Chisongzi Daoyin Qigong Competition and High-Speed Rail to Beijing

Our group has been invited to attend the official national Chisongzi Daoyin Qigong Competition at the local Chisong Daoist Temple. You will observe live demonstrations and exchange ideas with domestic practice teams—a rare opportunity for cross-cultural learning and connection.

That afternoon, we board China’s high-speed rail for Beijing, traveling at close to 200 miles per hour. The train journey itself offers a vivid glimpse of contemporary China as we move toward our next wellness base.

Beijing: TCM Exchange, Medical Qigong, and Thermal Restoration

Days 9–10: Beijing TCM Exchange Center — Our two-day Beijing program takes place at the Beijing TCM Exchange Center, a specialized facility focused on TCM and medical-Qigong education and practice. The center traces part of its history to a former PLA medical-Qigong unit and now serves as an international exchange setting for carefully arranged study and experience programs.

The center has prepared a private curriculum for our group, including daily wellness cultivation exercises, master demonstrations, Daoist wellness seminars, external-Qigong demonstration, Taiji Monument Qigong, and Laojun Tang Lying Meditation—a deeply restorative Daoist relaxation practice.

Each participant will receive a one-on-one TCM cons titutional consultation, followed by scheduled sessions that may include acupuncture, moxibustion, tuina, and other traditional wellness modalities. Medicinal-style meals, inspired by TCM dietary principles, will be provided during the program.

The center’s founder and chief physician is Dr. Sujian Wan, a fourth-generation TCM practitioner from a multigenerational medical family. Dr. Wan began acupuncture training in childhood and later studied Chinese herbal medicine, martial arts, and Daoist Qigong. He holds medical degrees from Capital Medical College and the Beijing Military Medical School, has been featured in the documentary Qigong: Ancient Chinese Healing for the 21st Century, and serves as Vice President of the World Academic Society of Medical Qigong.

Day 11: The Great Wall and Royal Hot Springs — We begin Day 11 with a hike on the Great Wall, using the experience to reflect on the TCM ideal of harmony between human beings and nature. Depending on timing, we may also make brief exterior stops at landmark sites such as the Bird’s Nest and Water Cube at Olympic Park, the National Centre for the Performing Arts, the Beihai White Pagoda, the outer moat and corner towers of the Forbidden City, and the China Millennium Monument.

Sightseeing remains a meaningful complement to—rather than the central purpose of—our wellness program. In the evening, we check into a royal hot-spring resort for two nights of mineral bathing, rest, and professional TCM massage. Participants who wish to extend their cultural exploration may join an optional three-day Beijing sightseeing program after the main tour.

Langfang: Integrated Wellness, Cultural Arts, and Daily Practice

Traveling from Mount Jinhua to Langfang brings together two complementary dimensions of Chinese wellness: the simple, contemplative rhythm of Daoist mountain practice and the contemporary comfort of an integrated wellness hotel and cultural academy.

Located in the Langfang Development Zone, ENNOVA Health Group, an affiliate of ENN Group, includes the Tri-Healing Health Center and the Seven Cultivation Academy with its dedicated five-star wellness hotel. The Seven Cultivation approach brings together virtue, diet, Qigong, calligraphy, incense, music, and floral art as dimensions of balanced living.

Day 12: Seven Cultivation Culture — Day 12 is devoted to exploring the Seven Cultivation wellness philosophy. Following a private tour and hotel check-in, you will enjoy rooms designed around Five Elements-inspired aesthetics, with traditional mulberry-paper décor, sandalwood and agarwood aromatics, and classical art intended to create a calm atmosphere.

We will enjoy authentic Shandong-style meals at the YuShan Family Restaurant, accompanied by folk performance. Between meals, the Seven Cultivation Academy hosts two hands-on workshops:

  1. Create a copper-foil burnt painting with guidance from master artisans—no previous art experience required.
  2. Blend natural herbs to make a portable scented incense plaque, inspired by classical Chinese incense culture.

Day 13: TCM Wellness Consultation and Practical Learning —  At the Tri-Healing Wellness Center, we will tour the facility, receive a micro-magnetic wellness assessment, and participate in one-on-one TCM consultations using the four traditional diagnostic approaches. These experiences are intended to support personal reflection on constitution, lifestyle, and self-care; they are not a substitute for medical diagnosis or treatment.

After lunch at Jin Ting Restaurant, participants join small-group sessions that may include acupuncture, moxibustion, and therapeutic tuina. You will also learn to identify selected raw medicinal herbs and their traditional wellness uses, then make your own herbal pouch to take home. We conclude the day with an interactive Chinese home-cooking class at the Seven Cultivation Academy.

Day 14: Song-Dynasty Crafts and Hanfu Culture — On Day 14, we explore intangible cultural heritage through Song-Dynasty silk-craft instruction. You will learn about the Silk Road and traditional textile motifs, then create handmade flower pendants and begonia earrings with master-artisan guidance.

At midday, sample local specialty snacks and regional pastries while enjoying folk performances. In the afternoon, every participant will receive a full Hanfu costume set and accessories to wear for photographs and cultural immersion. The day concludes with a Shandong folk banquet and live performance at YuShan Family Restaurant.

Day 15: Departure—and Continuing the Practice at Home — Our final morning begins with a seasonal wellness breakfast. As the group checks out before noon, some participants will begin their return journey home, while others may depart for the optional three-day Beijing extension.

The end of the trip is not the end of the work. The real value of the journey lies in what you bring home: a few Qigong forms you can practice, a more conscious relationship with food and rest, a clearer understanding of your own constitution, and renewed attention to the cultivation of body, mind, and spirit.
